Different Ways to Worship through Song

A resource of the Fayetteville Prayer Room.

The Psalmists wrote songs of praise, thanksgiving, remembrance, kingship, confidence, wisdom and lament. Modern songwriters write different kinds of worship songs too. Here are a few:

Praise. Most often, worship is pure praise– when we exalt the Lord, expecting nothing in return. We can join the angels singing, “Holy, holy, holy!” He is worthy!

Intercession. Sometimes worship is warfare– when we sing over our homes, churches, region and beyond. We can declare God’s will through song, expecting breakthrough!

Trust. Worship can open the door to healing. As we minister to the Lord, He turns and ministers to us (Luke 12:37). In His presence, God softens our hearts and teaches us to trust. In that place of vulnerability, He brings freedom, wholeness and rest for our souls.

Submission. Worship can lead to deep transformation. As we yield our hearts through songs of surrender, the Holy Spirit gently convicts and reshapes us—for His glory and our good.

Celebration. We can also sing to God, expressing our gratitude for all the wonderful things He has done!

The Prayer Room has curated song lists for different kinds of worship on both Spotify and Youtube.

Three Song Playlists– We created short playlists for each day of the week. Each list includes one song for praise, one for submission and one for intercession.

Songs for Praise and Intercession– This list begins with songs that simply declare God’s glory and ends with intercessory worship songs.

Songs for Healing and Transformation– This list starts with songs about trust, moves into songs of submission and ends with celebratory thanksgiving!

Come, let us sing to the Lord!

Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving;

Let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!
