A glow in your gut
Hidden somewhere under your ribcage
Dim, like poisoned Tinkerbell.
You want to believe!
You want to believe!
So, reach down and wrench it out for Christ’s sake.
Pull it up and kindle it in your hands.
Peer through cupped fingers in wonder
And blow.
It flickers like a cough and ignites.
Aghast. Is it real?
Could it really be real?
It is!
Sit down, stare at it and pant, exhilarated.
Now, hold it close. Curl yourself around it.
Hear the lullaby sang from your own lips,
“It’s true. It’s true. It’s always been true.
Unbroken, bespoken, the unmade made new.”
Now, stand up to your full height,
Throw out your chest
And fling that glow into the sky!
Make it the sun by which you see everything else!
Life is bright.
Light has come into the world and the darkness will not overcome it.
